Mon. 10

Monument : Ka-hay
Period : Dynasty V
Reign(s) : Nyuserra - Unas (?)
High Date : 2445
Low Date : 2345
Monument type : Mastaba
Localisation or provenance : Saqqara
References : PM III, 2, 639-641; Moussa and Altenmüller (1971).

Ka-hay was “Director of singers”. He was the father of Nefer (Mon.9) and Wer-bauw (Mon.11). The occurrences are taken from the list provided in Moussa and Altenmüller (1971, 46). This tomb provides an interesting hieroglyph, here given the number A108* which shows a singer with a lock of long hair and outstretched arm and upturned palm, obviously exercising his profession. This sign is used as a substitute for the standard “seated man” A1. It is also to be found in the mastaba of his son Wer-bauw, another singer (Mon.11).
